Mushroom extract specifications: fruiting body, mycelium and identity
A mushroom trade name can cover different species, material types and processes.

Name the material precisely
A mushroom trade name can cover different species, material types and processes. Ask whether the proposed input is fruiting body, mycelium, another preparation or an extract, and document the exact species. A familiar consumer ingredient name is not enough to establish what will be placed into a pouch.
An extract ratio does not answer every question
A ratio can describe part of a process but does not by itself establish identity, composition or effectiveness. Define the relevant analytical markers and the method used to measure them. Record carriers or other added material so the formulation team can understand what the input actually contains.
Think about the pouch matrix
Particle size, flavor, color and distribution can affect how the prototype handles and tastes. Review the actual ingredient in the proposed carrier and nonwoven format. A small pouch can impose practical limits on fill volume, so avoid transferring a capsule or powder concept unchanged without a feasibility review.
Ask for a coherent document package
Ingredient identity, lot traceability, relevant assays, microbiological limits and appropriate contaminant controls should fit the actual material. Confirm what the supplier can provide and which finished-product tests are proposed. Do not translate broad functional mushroom language into memory, immunity or disease claims without applicable evidence and review.
Use this in your project brief
- Identify which decisions are approved and which still need review.
- Keep the formula, pack, testing and quotation versions connected.
- Assign a responsible reviewer before an unresolved assumption becomes a label or order requirement.
