Formulation development
A botanical idea becomes useful when the specification is clear.
Start with identity, source and the destination
List the exact ingredient form, botanical species and plant part where applicable. Confirm caffeine-bearing ingredients and distinguish active content from extract addition rate. The intended destination and planned label language should be reviewed before sampling.
Evaluate the complete pouch
A promising raw material does not by itself establish a suitable oral pouch. Carrier, particle size, moisture, flavor, sweetener and pouch material influence handling and the sensory experience. Define what the prototype review should establish and what remains unproven.
Create an approval record
Use versioned prototypes and a common evaluation sheet. Record the chosen flavor, physical appearance, pouch feel and relevant analytical targets. A signed reference sample and approved specification give purchasing, production and packaging teams the same point of comparison.
Plan testing before making label promises
Agree which assays apply to raw materials and which must be performed on finished pouches. Discuss content uniformity, microbiology, compatibility and stability as appropriate. Clinical or absorption claims require their own evidence; they do not follow from using an ingredient in a new format.

Carrier, sweetness and flavor options
These ingredient groups can be adapted across categories. Final percentages, moisture, pH, fill weight and stability are developed for the selected formula.
| Carrier and filler | Microcrystalline cellulose, plant fiber (bamboo or cotton) and maltitol. |
|---|---|
| Moisture system | Food-grade propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. |
| Sweetness | Sucralose, acesulfame potassium (Ace-K), erythritol and steviol glycosides. |
| pH adjustment | Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate; final pH is specified for the approved formula. |
| Flavor and cooling | Food flavorings, menthol and WS-23; cooling intensity is part of sample review. |
| Supporting ingredients | Food-grade antioxidant and preservative options, selected for the finished formula. |
Ingredient availability and destination suitability are reviewed per project. Shelf life and any release profile require finished-product evidence.
From reference to approved specification
Review plant-source ingredient options, the number of supporting additives, sweetness and flavor. Encapsulation or a controlled release profile can be discussed where technically feasible; performance and shelf life are established through project-specific testing.
Define the ingredients, target amounts, destination and planned quantities. Develop samples, review sensory and physical attributes, agree tests and approve the final formula and artwork.
Send a custom formula briefCustom production starts at 3,000 cans per SKU and 9,000 cans per order. Ingredient eligibility and labeling are reviewed for the destination.
